A little bit about me and how I became the creator I am now. and where I came from. and how I gained my skills. and how I work. and why I’m a web designer.

  • CHILDHOOD

    Humble Origins

I grew up in a small town in Louisiana, USA.  My mother, an artist, gifted me with the love of drawing and painting.

What? It was a whole look!

  • University of North Texas

Bachelor of Arts, Theater Art & Design.  I started out as a performance major in Dance & Drama.  With no desire to teach, I thought I’d “fall back” on design and construction with a concentration in make-up and costuming. Post college I spent time working as a make-up artist in indie film.

  • FIRST JOB

    First International Systems

Through happenstance, I got the opportunity to go to work for a software development company.  Here was my first major exposure to technology as we know it today.  I ignited a passion for computers, tech and everything in-between.

    CRTs. Remember those things?

  • Viva Las Vegas

Eager for a change and ready to head west, I moved to Las Vegas.  I went to work for a sound & light company that provided gear and techs for concerts and show-rooms.  When the boss asked me if I could use my computer skills to put together a simple website, I jumped at the opportunity and began teaching myself web design.  A study that still continues to this day in a ever-changing industry.

    What happens in Vegas,…

    MOVING WESTWARD

  • MODEL FOR HIRE

    In Front of the Camera

When a friend told me I should model, I laughed.  Then I started doing it.  Trade-shows and conventions helped pay the bills but I become fascinated with creating art with photographs.  I reveled in the creation process of an idea to the final image.

    Made my own motivational poster.

  • Freelance Web Designer

As the need for having an industry website became more and more of a thing, I found myself a struggling artist, unable to hire a web designer.  My solution? Learn how to do it myself.  I sat down with books, tutorials, a subscription to Web Designer Magazine and LOTS of coffee!  I continued my web studies, teaching myself how to design and implement websites.  Often creating or taking on projects that were way over my skill level.  But where there’s a will, and a paycheck, there is a way.  Gradually my work got seen and I was hired more and more to create sites for others.

  • FREELANCING

    Red Rubber Media

Creating websites evolved into creating web content.  I took my artistic abilities and, with the help of some very talented friends, I gained additional skill sets in the areas of Graphic Design, Photography and Videography.  It was so exciting to combine all forms of media into one arena.  Ready to get serious about business, I decided to start my own company.  Taking the advice of an industry professional I respected who told me that the best business names come from personal stories, I created Red Rubber Media.  Ready, set, go,…. DESIGN!

Wanna know the story? Buy me a drink and I’ll tell ya!

  • Red Rubber Photo

One day, my client who is a real estate agent, asked me if I would consider shooting all of her property media in addition to the graphic work I’d been doing for her.   I enjoyed shooting scenery and landscapes, so I decided to give it a shot.  I studied up on current trends and practices for real estate photography, then went to work.  I found my new passion.  The real estate industry in California is exciting and full of opportunities.  Even though I still shoot travel and landscapes for pleasure, I love being able to go into beautiful homes.  Houses have history and stories.  Illustrating my own story of a house through photo and video has been an amazing adventure.

    To Infinity And Beyond

I continue to design, build, and create multimedia content for as many industries as I can.  I travel as much as as possible.  I love my friends and family madly.  And I continue to learn veraciously.

What opportunities does the future hold?  Why? What did you have in mind? ;-)
